Colour: Bright pitch core, black plum with crimson lights. Bouquet: Very full, ‘treasure chest’ of violets, black fruit compote, chocolate, panforte, coffee, licorice, black olive, with a splash of spicy new French oak. Palate: Fresh and lively, long, broad, intense layered palate of concentrated black fruit compote, chocolate, panforte, licorice, and a long lingering dried plum finish with fine, drying tannins, black olive and beefstock. Wine Enthusiast Consumers who like French-inspired Australian Shiraz should buy as much of this wine as they can find. The grapes are from 80-110-year-old vineyards, the winemaking is by Dan Standish (formerly at Torbreck) and the results are heavenly. Aromas are floral-verging on herbal in the way of the Northern Rhône backed by blueberries. It's creamy and lush, mouthcoating, while the complex flavors range from blueberry to raspberry and black olive to spice. Finishes long and peppery, with a dusting of fine tannins and uplifted fruit. Delicious now, but it should evolve through 2015. Score: 94. James Halliday Lashings of black fruits, licorice and spice; a long, lively finish with high-quality tannins and good oak. Score: 94.
