Cigale Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2005

Cigale Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2005

Red
BN#186750

Colour: Deep garnet / ruby red.

Bouquet: Bright and lifted fruit aromatics of dark cherry, ripe and sour plum, wood smoke, tree bark, cardamom, pepper, chocolate truffle and ground coffee with subtle hints of gooseberry.

Palate: Full-bodied with flavours that mirror the aromas; cherry, sour plum, mulberry and currants. Fine lightly drying grape tannins give the wine freshness on the finish.

Wine Advocate The dark ruby-colored 2005 Grenache (40%) - Mourvedre (32%) - Shiraz (28%) spent 10 months in seasoned French oak. It offers an alluring bouquet of cedar, forrest floor, clove, saddle leather, game, and black cherry. Medium to full-bodied, it is velvety-textured, concentrated, and layed with spicy red fruits. There is enough structure to carry this Chateauneuf du Pape-like wine for 10-12 years. Score: 90. October 31, 2007.

Wine Spectator Lithe and silky, with a lovely core of blackberry and floral flavors, hinting at mineral and roasted meat as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2012. Score: 90. 2007.

Wine Enthusiast This is an attractive Rhône-style blend of 40% Grenache, 32% Mourvèdre and 28% Shiraz, showing facets of each variety. There's a bit of cola or chocolate from the Mourvèdre, blackberry and spice from the Shiraz and superripe stone fruit from the Grenache, which also contributes a lovely textural component. This is intense without being weighty or heavy, lingering elegantly on the finish. Editors Choice. Score: 90.
