Wayne Thomas Shiraz 2005

Wayne Thomas Shiraz 2005

Red
BN#191324

This wine is intensely dark in colour with purple tinges. A loaded nose of blackberry, raspberry, pepper and spice that is backed up by smoky American oak. The palate resembles the aromas with nice firm tannins backed up with vanillan oak.

Wine Spectator Rich and round, but nicely balanced to display its plum and spicy oak flavors deftly, with a rich feel to the tannins - but no heaviness - as the finish sails on and on. Drink now through 2015. Score: 90.

Wine & Spirits The firm cherry flavors of this wine feel layered and luscious, lasting on clean fruit. It's finely polished for such a hugh wine, its stores of ripeness under control, the structure complete. Decant it for thick-cut lamb chops. Score: 90.

Wine Advocate The 2005 Shiraz is purple colored with an expressive bouquet of Asian spices, clove, cinnamon, saddle leather, blueberry, and blackberry. Supple and forward, this full-bodied, full-flavored Shiraz is nicely balanced, even elegant. It will evolve for several years but can be enjoyed now. It is also an excellent value. The late Wayne Thomas, a well known winemaker and consultant, launched his namesake label in 1994 with fruit sourced from around McLaren Vale. Score: 90. October 31, 2007.
