Colour: Bright black cherry core, with magenta rim and purple hues. Bouquet: Violets, fennel, Christmas cake, black plum, chocolate, black olives and funky beefstock, finishing with a whiff of fine toasty French oak. Palate: Immaculately balanced palate of sweet black plum, rich minerally blackberry, black licorice, dark chocolate, black olives, beefstock and orange peel, with a long fine grained fruit tannin finish, and dash of French oak seasoning. Wine Advocate The 2004 "Antiquity" Shiraz was sourced from Shiraz vine ranging in age from 80-110 years of age. It was aged for 27 months in French hogsheads and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Opaque purple-colored, it deliveres an enticing perfume of toasty oak, violets, fennel, plum, blueberry compote and blackberry liqueur. This leads to a full-flavored Shiraz in which notes of crushed stone, licorice, and chocolate make an appearence. The wine is mouth-coating, opulant, and altogether hedonistic. It has enough stuffing to evolve for 6-8 years and will continue to provide pleasure through 2025. Score: 92. October 31, 2007.
